Colombian Mercenaries in Sudan: Deceived and Exploited in the Conflict

Colombian press has revealed that the number of Colombian mercenaries in Sudan has reached 300, most of them veteran fighters with significant combat experience who were lured by large financial rewards. They fell into a trap set by dubious recruitment networks that misled them with promises of simple tasks for high wages, only to be thrust into the heart of the war in Sudan.

The THE CITY PAPER quoted a former official from the Colombian Ministry of Defense, stating, “Retired soldiers were deceived and urged to travel to other countries, getting involved in activities that fall under criminal offenses.”

The newspaper further added, “The UAE’s intervention in the Sudanese conflict has intensified violence and attracted Colombian fighters, sending them to the troubled African state.”

Lasillavacia reported receiving voice messages via WhatsApp from one of the mercenaries in Sudan, who confirmed that the number of his compatriots in Sudan had reached 300. Some of them were recruited under false pretenses and killed shortly after arriving in Sudan. He mentioned that the contracts they initially received were for providing security services at UAE oil facilities. This is a tactic commonly used by the UAE regime to deceive and exploit mercenaries in conflicts it manages, from Yemen to Libya and now Sudan. Previously, Emirati intelligence companies secretly transported dozens of young Sudanese to Libya, tricking them into believing they would work as security guards at UAE oil facilities, only to later discover they were recruited to fight alongside “Khalifa Haftar.”
